Advanced Veterinary Services

DIAGNOSTICS
Sierra Veterinary Clinic is a full service facility offering advanced medical, surgical and dental care. We believe every pet is entitled to the best that veterinary medicine has to offer. Our hospital is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, ready to make a full diagnosis as quickly as possible.   Instead of treating the symptoms, we acquire scientific confirmation through diagnostic tools such as blood work, x-rays and ultrasound.

  • Blood Analysis - We offer a comprehensive in-house blood panel, with results available in as soon as 30 minutes.  We can also run an in-house urinalysis.  Faster results mean better care for your pet, with earlier diagnosis and treatment.
  • Computerized EKG - This machine helps us to evaluate the heart function of your pet.  We may also recommend a chest xray or an ultrasound for a more through view of your pet's cardiac function.
  • Digital Tonometer - helps to measure eye pressure to check for glaucoma.  It is identical to the one used by human ophthalmologists.
  • Blood Pressure Monitors - crucial for anesthetic monitoring and for diagnosing hypertension in older pets.
  • Pulse Oxymeter - measure oxygen levels and heart rate during anesthesia. This is very important for regulating and monitoring depth of anesthesia and pain during a surgical procedure.
  • Fully computerized medical files - clear and easy access to your pet's data.

Our goal is to successfully meet the challenges of diagnosis and treatment of difficult cases, as fast as possible and at a reasonable cost.

ULTRASOUND
Sierra Veterinary Clinic now proudly offers ultrasound. The GE Logic Book system lets our staff further examine your pet, giving important diagnostic information, using a non-invasive technique. We can examine vital organs for masses, cysts, abnormal architecture, and textures. Ultrasound guided tissue samples can also be obtained under anesthesia. We can determine pregnancy. We can observe fluid in the abdomen, and also take samples to submit for analysis. We can further evaluate heart function. And blood flow through vessels and organs can also be studied.

This system also allows us to communicate with other veterinary specialists for an additional fee. Within minutes images can be electronically sent to internal medicine and cardiac specialists for further analysis. A report is then available within 24 hours.

ACUPUNCTURE/HOLISTIC
Sierra Veterinary Clinic offers several forms of complementary or alternative therapies. We offer acupuncture, homeopathy, and nutritional therapies. These therapies can be used in conjunction with conventional treatment as an additional aid in your pet's treatment. These modalities are termed complimentary therapy because they are an adjunct or additional treatment option when conventional medicines may not help completely. Acupuncture uses needles to stimulate nerves and move energy around the body through channels called meridians. The therapy can alleviate pain associate with arthritis. It can help the kidneys function better in cases of kidney failure. It can reduce inflammation such as in allergies, feline gingival stomatitis (inflamed gums), and inflammatory bowel syndrome. Many other conditions respond favorably to acupuncture including epilepsy.

Homeopathy uses minute quantities of a substance to stimulate the body to correct an imbalance. Homeopathic remedies have no known side effects. Homeopathy can be used to treat almost any condition conventional therapy can, sometimes without the side effects seen with drugs. Nutritional therapy uses specific supplements to help the body return to normal function. This can include treating endocrine disorders, stomach and intestinal disease, and arthritis. If any of these alternative treatment interests you for your cherished companion, call Sierra Veterinary Clinic to schedule an appointment.
